Chair – Productivity Commission Te Kōmihana Whai Hua o Aotearoa.
Ganesh is a first-generation New Zealander, born, bred, and educated in Te Whanganui a Tara. His interest in economics originally emanated from his love of numbers, which in turn arose out of his passion for cricket.
Ganesh is the current Chair of the Productivity Commission Te Kōmihana Whai Hua o Aotearoa. He was appointed to this role in December 2020 following 22 years as a Senior Economist at the consultancy Business and Economics Research Limited (BERL).
Prior to BERL, Ganesh acted as primary caregiver to his pre-school children while also employed as part-time lecturer at Victoria University. Before children, Ganesh managed to explore some parts of the world – including working in England as a researcher in the House of Commons gaining experience with IMF and OECD economic models. On his way home to Aotearoa he spent several months visiting family and ancestral lands across India.
Ganesh believes economics is fundamentally about people and their communities, and is best reflected in our collective role as kaitiaki o taonga.
Dr Dougal Sutherland
Dougal’s experience as both a psychologist and a people leader informs his commitment to enhancing personal and organisational wellbeing.
Dougal has been working as a clinical psychologist for over 20 years and is the CEO of Umbrella Wellbeing. Dougal’s work providing psychological support to workplaces and employees has seen him assist an array of organisations, including government departments, private companies and the Sir John Kirwan Foundation. This work has taken him around the country and around the world, providing help to everyone from stressed-out bureaucrats in Wellington, to victims of car-jackings, to people living in a constant state of fear due to impending missile attacks.
Dougal has a passion for making psychology more accessible to the general public and has worked with the media in print, radio, and TV. His skill at translating expert psychological knowledge into accessible learning experiences contributes to Dougal’s training expertise, and his ability to support individual clients to make effective changes.
Dougal is also an Adjunct Teaching Fellow at Te Herenga Waka–Victoria University of Wellington in the School of Psychology clinical psychology training programme, where he contributes to the training of the next generation of clinical psychologists.
Previously, Dougal has worked in public mental health services providing psychological support to children, parents, and families. He also managed a large and diverse team through a time of significant growth and change in the business. He is a highly respected leader who brings this deep understanding of people to his facilitation, and now to his role as Umbrella CEO.

What interests young people about joinery, and how can the joinery profession attract younger people?
To kick Saturday off right, we will meet Fergal who will share his vision of the future, just after breakfast. Fergal is a tertiary student who has recently completed a joinery summer internship and therefore holds a unique perspective.
From this interactive session, we can find out more about the younger persons view of joinery, including what they know about it.
What do young people know about our profession and what do we know about them? Lets find some answers.
We will also meet a group of high school technology students who will be stopping by on Friday, 26th at lunch time to explore the exhibition, awards display and innovative products available.
Say gidday to them while you are there and share why joinery is a great career choice!

Option 2 | Wellington Rafting (capped at 20)

White water rafting and is a great way to spend the day with delegates.
Join in the adventure in the lower section of the Hutt River, enjoy the scenery, feel the rapids, and finish off with a great lunch. In the event of unfavourable river conditions, the group will go canyoning.

Option 3 | Weta Workshop, Tour & Lunch
Delegates will be collected from Takina Conference Centre at 10.40am and return by 4.00pm.
Delegates will be guided by an experienced Wētā Workshop crew member who will take you on a guided journey through the practical effects crafted for The Lord of the Rings, King Kong, The Chronicles of Narnia, Avatar and much more! followed by a specially prepared lunch at the Roxy Theatre the event concludes with a hands-on weta workshop working with either leather, chainmaile, makeup or sculpting.

Option 4 | Harbour Fishing and Claybird shooting

Option 6 | Master Joiner Sailing Regatta (Capped at 28).
Delegates will be collected from Takina Conference Centre at 11.00am and return by 4.00pm.
Sign up for the Master Joiners Sailing Regatta on Wellington harbor held at the Port Nicholson Yacht Club. Delegates will be split into teams and taken out on the water by a Maritime certified skipper to be put through their sailing paces. Two races will determine a winner from each to race for the final Master Joiner Challenge.
This event is time sensitive, please be punctual. There will be no alcohol served at this event. Intoxicated persons will not be admitted entry.
Spectators are welcome to watch from the race room, beverages and lunch is provided. Spectators are required to register.
If the Regatta is cancelled due to bad weather conditions, delegates may be offered transfers to another activity on the day.
