The prestigious Owen Wright Memorial Trophy was presented at the Awards Dinner on 17th June 2017 to PETER LEITH.
The trophy is awarded to a person who has made a significant contribution to the New Zealand joinery industry.
Peter has a long history of involvement with the joinery industry. The involvement includes not only Master Joiners but also World Skills Competitions for more than 20 years. He has spent countless hours and thousands of his own dollars in training, advising, organising competitions, raising sponsorship, and supplying materials and tool kits for New Zealand competitors.
He has accompanied and mentored apprentices to competitions in Korea, Switzerland, Japan, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, Brazil, and this year to Abu Dhabi.
Peter has been President of the Otago/Southland association and been on the Master Joiners national Executive. During this time he instigated and ran the Otago/Southland regional competitions and awards.
Owen Wright, then President of Canterbury JMA, was tragically killed in the 22 February 2011 Canterbury earthquake. The Owen Wright Memorial Trophy signifies Owen’s much valued and wise contributions to the joinery industry.
